The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy

In the madness of Germany during WWII, two children are forced to fend entirely for themselves, through the forest of roving Germans bent on killing anyone who is or might by Jewish.  When an entire village might be killed for harboring a Jew, some are exceedingly brave, but not all.  Can you imagine saving your spit for hours and then swallowing it all at once so your stomach thinks it has at least had a drink?  The deprivation and danger is unimaginable as are these children’s real names.  A powerful story.  9 out of 10.
