The Dead & the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer

The Dead & the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer.  8 out of 10.  Good read. Science Fiction.  At least so far in our world it is science fiction!  An asteroid hits the moon, knocking it out of its orbit and closer to the earth.  This effects the tides, causing flooding.  Its gravitational pull activates volcanoes.  Main character, 17 year old Alex, is left to care for himself and two sisters.  He parents disappeared the day of the catastrophe.  The story takes place in New York City.  Utilities are on and off; food is hard to obtain; there are dangerous people on the streets.  Dead bodies are left in the streets as the months go by.  It's a good story of survival as long as possible.  I wish it had not ended so abruptly.  I wanted to read about the next part of their lives. This is book 2 of 4 in Pfeffer's series.
