Eternal, by Lisa Scottoline. 10 out of 10.  WW II, in Rome, Italy.  Starting in 1937.  Three school friends, one Jewish boy, one Catholic boy, and a girl.  They grow up in the same school and are the best friends ever.  Yes, eventually both boys are interested in the gal romantically.  She wants that kind of attention, but which will she choose?  Lots of luck guessing that!  Mussolini begins his alliance with Hitler and the Jews are targeted.  It's unimaginable how former neighborhoods and friends turn away from the Jews who suffer terribly in every part of their lives.  Their families face difficult decisions that effect the three young people and their friendships.  The was divides the city as these three reach adulthood. Each of the three do their best to survive and help each other.  It's the best story I've read for a long time.  Enjoy!
